About Us
How It All Started
Dave Wasylyshen was instrumental in
hosting the first-ever Claresholm
Show 'N' Shine in 1992. The show was
held in the Claresholm Museum
parking lot with only 4 vehicles in
attendance. Dave noticed that the
Claresholm community had a large
number of special-interest vehicles,
and over the next few years, with
the help of Doug Leeds, the Show 'N'
Shine became a regular, growing
event. Based on the Show 'N' Shine's
success we formed the car club,
Porcupine Hills Classic Cruisers,
in 2000. Our club's first Show 'N'
Shine was held in a beautiful grassy
park area behind the Claresholm
Museum. It was a big hit, with
Claresholm resident's vehicles
making up 60 of the 122 total
entrants. Riding on the positive
feedback generated over that first
show, the Show 'N' Shine has since
been moved to Centennial Park to
better facilitate the involvement of
the entire town. To add to the
excitement we have also added live
performances to the show ranging
from Elvis Tribute artists to
Classic Rock act The Chevelles. We
also have a "Beer Garden" so you can
get out of the sun...and relax!
Where We Are Now
Every year Claresholm residents come
out to our Show 'N' Shine to enjoy
the atmosphere and memories of days
gone by, with classic tunes and
classic cars. Prepare to enjoy the
whole day as we have vendors at the
event selling food and T-shirts.
There is a 50/50 draw to add to the
excitement along with giveaways
throughout the day.
Each year we average 120 - 125 entrants from
southern Alberta and British
Columbia. These classic car owners
invest huge amounts of time and
money in restoring their vehicles
and the Show 'N' Shine is a great
way for them to share their "Pride
and Joy" with other enthusiasts.
Potential entrants for the event do
not necessarily have to be finished
products. We encourage you to dust
off and bring out your vehicle in
any stage of restoration or in any
condition that may be of special
interest to other car lovers. Judges
view the cars and decide on which
category in which to place each
vehicle. The car club hands out
ballots for everyone to choose their
favorite vehicle and the winner is
awarded the "Peoples Choice" award.
The car entrants also vote on their
3 favorite vehicles for the top 6
"Participant Awards". Other
categories include Special Interest,
Judged Best of Show, Best Paint,
Farthest Distance, Best Motorcycle
(Cruiser), Best Motorcycle (Paint),
Ladies Choice, Best Original, Most
Unique, Best Interior, Best 4x4,
Best Engine, and Club Participation.
Where We are Going
Future plans are to get bigger and
better, possibly host a larger event
with other communities and include a
dance in the evening. Also a cruise
or parade with all the vehicles
would be something that the public
may be interested in planning.
